On a recent trip to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans I packed my usual cameras to capture the experience. A DSLR with a wide angle lens for interior shots and a small pocket digital camera with zoom capabilities which usually serves me well and results in some great photos. For the first time though juggling two cameras felt kind of awkward and my 10 year old pocket digital camera didn’t quite feel like it was giving me enough flexibility to get what I wanted. Doing some research upon getting home I decided to try something new and purchased a Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS70 which hopefully would combine the best features of my DSLR and pocket digital cameras. Like many electronic products you buy today the accompanying documentation is slim with the expectation being you’ll go online and download a more comprehensive owner’s manual. Upon un-boxing my Lumix and experimenting with it a bit it quickly became clear that this camera is incredibly complex and sophisticated and neither the paper mini-manual or the downloaded Panasonic manual were enough to guide me. Looking for further help led me to this book; "Photographer’s Guide to the Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS70/TZ90", by Alexander S. White. Mr. White takes Lumix owner’s on a deeper dive than the manufacturer’s documentation, complete with color photos of the various screens and detailed instructions. Given the subject matter it’s a bit dry but well organized and should answer any Lumix owner’s questions on unlocking their camera’s secrets and getting the very best from it. Having this resource will take you through the myriad of menus and choices available allowing users to customize the DC-ZS70 as they wish. If you spend the money and invest in a camera with this level of sophistication it’s well worth the price buying Mr. White’s fine book to complement your ownership experience. Highly recommended!

I bought the Kindle version of this book. It's a gold mine of information, nicely written and organized.However the Kindle (for iPad) version will not let you zoom in on the photographs. Many of these are very small with lots of detail and annotations and impossible to make use of. Consequently, the usefulness of the book suffers and 5-stars becomes 3-stars.

Get it if you have the camera. It will help you sort the choices. There are too many choices because you can't set a working group of them to use in the field. It's like going in a fast food place and needing to tell the cashier all the choices you DON'T want. I'd have shown more but Amazon will not allow me to drag and drop a photo to share despite inviting me to do so. Trying to do so sets this page back to zero, so when they fix their site I'll be more helpful.OK edit function allowed me to add a photo. See the birdie? He was about 50 feet away in deep woods so it was low light. I find the zoom capability amazing, but the little bird is twitchy. He moved his tail and it blurred. The camera allows you to set it to take 5 pix in rapid sequence. One of those would probably have not had any blurring. That's the sort of choice the book makes easier.

Finally I can really use this camera properly! This is way better than trying to puzzle everything out using the manual. This logical and extremely well documented step by step presentation of all the features of this very feature rich camera really facilitates learning how to properly use this wonderful camera. It has really also helped me use my Lumix DMC-FZ300. Lots of overlap even if the physical layout is different. Use this to learn the why and how of the features then use the manufactures advanced manual to reference back as necessary.

Very comprehensive book, and most importantly easy to understand for people like me who are overwhelmed by the range of options on this camera

Best book I've ever seen about how to use a camera! Covers everything specific abut this model and also teaches you a lot about photography along the way. Panasonic should bundle this with the camera instead of their manual!

Panasonic gives very little printed instructions and a very detailed web based instructional assistance. Their web based info is too technical and difficult to understand. This book is exactly what I needed. A easy “ how to “. Easy to read and apply the guidance. Practical without being confusing. You can take the simple instructions and/or the more detailed instruction and make your camera experience more fun.

The reason I bought this was because I have the authors book for the Nikon Coolpix P900 super zoom. There he does a great job covering all the material and makes the Nikon documentation a lot more clear, He explains options and redundancies that are not very clear in the Manufacturers documentation. He does not do it nearly as well on the Lumix ZS70 and its not because the Panasonic Owners Manual is all that much better, he just seems to walk through and repeat a lot of what's in the book. For the price I should have just re-read the owners manual. For the P900 it was worth it but even the digital version of the ZA70 book was over priced.

This is a self-published book about the murder charges leveled against silent film start Fatty Arbuckle in 1921, and I'd like to cut the author, David Kizer, some slack. I admire that he took on such an ambitious project and saw it through. Some have said here that the book is poorly written (and it is) but I think the bigger fault is that it's poorly edited. Some of the editing problems may seem trivial, although reading this book makes it apparent that commas in the wrong place, as well as the failure to place commas where required, can really detract from the reading experience. But there are also too many sarcastic comments, awkwardly worded sentences, strange asides, as well as the occasional bizarre randomly inserted paragraph giving us updates on what Babe Ruth was doing on certain days. (One of the bigger "WTF" moments came when Kizer diverted from his storyline for a single paragraph to tell us that, back in New York, the Yankees beat the Indians 9 to 0 and Babe Ruth hit a single and made a nice running catch in the outfield. Huh?)There are two things that this book really desperately needs: A comprehensive review by an experienced and competent editor, and some kind of explanation of the author's sources. I realize that it may be difficult at this point to properly add numbered footnotes throughout the text, but two or three pages explaining the author's research process and a description of the source materials would add a great deal to the book's credibility.Meanwhile, as I type this, Babe Ruth is lying peacefully in his grave at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York, beneath a tombstone with his name on it.Now that I've gotten those complaints out of the way, I do want to say that the author does seem to have some kind of legal background (There's no "about the author" so we can't be sure.) and has spent a lot of time analyzing the case, the evidence, and the strategies of the attorneys involved in the Arbuckle trials. At its best, the book can be a page-turner at times and for all its faults, it may be the best book available about what happened to Fatty Arbuckle. We have the makings here of a pretty good book, and I do hope that the author revisits it and gets it the thorough editing that it needs.

I've read a number of books about Fatty Arbuckle but most of the books cover his entire life. This is the first book I've found that concentrates on the murder charge and the subsequent trials. The detail in this book is extensive. How this author collected all of this information and then made any sense of it is amazing. If you've ever wanted all of the details about the San Francisco DA's witness tampering, evidence creation and press manipulation that caused the destruction of one man, this is the book to read. I find it personally amazing that almost 100 years after this tragic event, Fatty Arbuckle is still considered a murderer rather than the fantastic comedian that he actually was. It's too bad that Mr. Kizer wasn't alive to have participated in Roscoe's defense. The author correctly points out that there were three major trials in the 20th century but this one trial changed an entire industry and almost a century later, we're still feeling its repercussions.

Wolves at the Door is a compelling read. Mr. Kizer brings to life the silent screen great Fatty Arbuckle and the ensuing scandal revolving around the death of actress Virginia Rappe in San Francisco in 1921. I have read other books recounting the machinations of the sordid details that poured out during the trial of this innocent man, but Wolves at the Door treads where none of the other books on this subject dare to go. Mr. Kizer's keen sense for the understatement and tremendous ability to set the mood of the 1920s (It's chock full of wonderful facts, trivia and provides the reader with the social, political and economic goings on during that time.) provides a full canvas for any reader to get a feel for what the roaring 20s were and would become. It's an ambitious book starting with two chapters giving detail of the goings on prior to and leading up to that eventful "party" at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. The balance of the book rockets into what takes place after the arrest Fatty Arbuckle and his subsequent trial for the murder of Virginia Rappe. This where Mr. Kizer's gift of the understatement is intelligently displayed; the the competition between the lawyers is at times humorous and at times disturbingly upsetting. Mr. Kizer is a natural storyteller. His explanation of the legal tactics, procedures and legal challenges that existed at the trial are a delight to read for those in the legal profession or not. I found the book to be a quick read and would recommended Wolves at the Door to everyone.

I bought this book hoping to learn about what really happened at that infamous party which resulted in that "trial of the century" so long ago.This book has answered many of my questions, so in that respect, it has served it's purpose. But I was hoping to get an impartial assessment of the facts. What I got was the pro-Arbuckle version of events. For example, minor discrepancies in the testimony of prosecution witnesses were highlighted and evil motivations were implied. Similar problems plainly present in Abuckle's testimony passed without remark.Without wanting to sound too critical, the Kindle version of this book was poorly edited,... containing many words which would pass spell-check but clearly were not what the author meant to say.I'm not sure if another, more impartial account of this story exists, but after finishing this book I am still wishing for one.
