This is actually a very good read. I was quite surprised because I have always thought of her as a ditz. I was in a B&B in Canada and was a little bored one evening after my workshop, so I picked it up to look at the photos. I began reading it and ended up buying it to finish it. She is an intelligent woman and honest in this book. A couple of things she does here (going into strange people's homes as an adult) I thought was a bit egotistical and entitled, especially because she didn't call herself on it. Other things she does, she actually admits behaving like a celebrity and I appreciated that she knew it was wrong. I found the postcards very unique and a creative way to write a book. After reading it, I went and watched a few more of her films that I was not aware of. The Peter Sellers film, she is actually more funnier than he is. So if you need something entertaining to read, pick it up. It is a good book.
Read this when it first came out in hardcover. It still resounds with me. Her outlook on life is always positive. When I grow up I want to be happy, is such a wonderful quote. She takes on her life and its challenges with a great attitude. Thats what makes this woman unique yet real. She touches your heart through out the book, yet her infectous smile and giggle come through in evey chapter. In the sadder ones, you can feel her pain. Shes candidly honest. I loved it!!! Wish she would write another.
Its Goldie"s voice in the recording. the book is really enjoyable. its not a hollywood tell-all, not in the least. Its her story from her perspective as a woman, a daughter, and a mother. She just happens to be a hollywood heavyweight, but that really is secondary in this book. it serves as merely a detail of this womans life. This one the most beautiful biographies ive ever read. i read the book but when i realized its actually her on the audio book, i had to get it. She is just pleasent to listen to.
completely unexpected story...not a story as much as a series of vinettes. NOT a tell-all Hollywood tale.Never would have guessed that Goldie iis such a spiritual, concerned person. A good read for anyone.
Fell in love with goldie back in laugh in days when i was in college. Grew into womanhood with this beautiful soul in my entertainment radar all these years. Now a grandma, still in love with goldie & now Kurt. Lol. Great read-great insight into this great human being who just happens to be Goldie Hawn!
I love biography's, Sally Field's is excellent. I have always like Goldie Hawn and was curious about her life so I started reading her book as well. Goldie glosses over her life and focuses more on life lessons. It's boring, not detailed, I couldn't get through it.
Goldie's personality is apparent but I was pleasantly surprised how thoughtful her insights were. This is not a "tell all", gossipy book. She has had such an interesting life that I was hoping for some more fun details. A lot of descriptive adjectives and adverbs fill the pages in setting the scenes, whether in India or on the California beaches, but sometimes it was too much for me and I wanted more details, less description.
I always associated joy and lightness with Goldie Hawn, but I didn't get much sense of that in this memoir. Not everyone is a riveting writer.She lectured unnecessarily in every chapter. I understand that she feels she has learned a lot and gained wisdom with her years, but it took away from the flow of the narrative. Plus, there was nothing exceptional about the wisdom.It did bother me that she didn't seem to understand that you can't just pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you are molested. You can't just forget and put a smile on your face. Sometimes you get PTSD. She was fortunate that in the one incident she experienced, she was able to scream upon understanding what he was going to do and was immediately surrounded by her protective family who came rushing to her aid and believed her without question. Sometimes people think that only what they experience is true and if your experience is different, you're somehow at fault. That alienated me.It was interesting to hear the stories behind the scenes of movies. She was very positive about people, which I liked.
