This book really helped me get through a lot of tough issues that were just going through my head. Even though I picked up this book a few years down the road of being a stepmom, it really helped me rethink about letting go of things you can’t control, and other issues that no one other than stepmoms know. It was really refreshing because I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this stuff. Have mom friends but not any step mom friends, and there is a HUGE difference. The biggest thing I got from this book was how to deal with the ex/mother of the child. And the fact that a lot of moms of separated families seem to be crazy! Lots of really amazing tools to help with that and knowing that there’s more than just me dealing with this. I only wish I found it sooner!
This is a candid and straight-forward view about the often challenging role of Stepmom... or Dad. Getting a reality check before entering into such a relationship would have been hugely helpful for me. Having some idea of what kind of waters one may be navigating is certainly more likely to be a better outcome than being completely lost.
Someone in a stepparent support group I’m a part of recommended this to me the other day, and I am so thankful I took her advice and bought it! This book is one of the best and most helpful books I’ve ever read. It’s funny, fun, easy to read, but most importantly REAL. The author is an actual stepmom, not just a psychologist or other “expert†who gives advice (albeit with good intentions), but never has lived it themselves. I can’t tell you how many times I nodded my head in agreement throughout the chapters or said “Amen!†or “I know what that’s like!†out loud while reading. If you are involved with a partner who has kids, whether you’re married or not, I HIGHLY recommend taking the time to read this!!!
I came across this book after hitting that wall and searching for any help, support or guide to this stepmom life I was living. Let me tell you that this book is well organized and written with the occasional dash of sarcasm where needed to cushion blatant truths. I am an advocate for this book now and will recommend to every woman I know. I wish someone had handed me this book 6 years ago. The book touched on EVERYTHING you can think of that affects step moms, even how things will affect your own kid(s). It even attempts to explain the alien like behavior of our spouses to their outside kid(s). I am more knowledgeable and equipped after reading this book. Buy it! You'll thank me

It's easy to read, it provides valuable insight, it's funny and it paints a realistic picture of the challenges of being a step mother while providing positive on advice on how to deal with these challenges. Finally, a book written by stepmothers for stepmothers.
A terrific guide with sound, honest insight and advice for being in a relationship/marriage with someone who has children. A must read for stepmoms, those who may become stepmoms and friends of stepmoms. As a friend of a few stepmoms myself, I read it to gain a better understanding of their challenges and rewards.
