One of the finest books I have ever read on the Incarnation and divinization. Pizzuto is a scholar and celtic-contemplative who writes beautifully-- the highest compliment I can give a book is that I can't read it quickly. I took this one with me to a silent week long retreat and savored it...often writing out and reflecting upon one of his gorgeous sentences. This is a book for us contemplative progressive types whose Christology can't be neatly put into a liberal or conservative category. I plan to facilitate an 8 week group on this book- so I can delve into it more fully in community.
I have not gotten through the whole book yet but I am really enjoying a group that is reading this book slowly so that it can be implemented in our daily living.
This book I’m sure is supposed to give the reader spiritual insight & guidance. So how about writing it for real people instead of those steeped in the knowledge of religious dogma. I could barely grasp what he was talking about. Meeting Jesus Again for the First Time is far better & far less verbose. This guy needs to read Max Lucado so he can learn how to relate to real folks.
There are those whose lectures/speeches/homilies are easier for me to receive, and others whose books are a treasure chest of riches that I end up reading several times just to immerse myself in their teaching. Vincent Pizzuto: University professor, Episcopal Priest, Author and one I am deeply honored to call beloved friend engages his students, congregation and readers in both ways. I have known Vincent+ for several years and been privileged to participate as a member of The New Skellig Community which he founded. This book incorporates the best of his incarnational and contemplative teaching, and I have the good fortune of being able to "hear" him in his written and well researched words/thoughts.I am, frankly, a slow reader when it comes to books such as this, simply because I want to absorb and make every word and thought a part of my life. The book is not simplistic by any means, yet it is not so academic that it can't be received by those who seek to embrace the contemplative path and be transformed (as scripture says) by the renewing of his/her mind.Toward the beginning of the book, Vincent discusses the parable of The Prodigal Son in a way that touched me at the core of my being. I know the parable well; I have studied and read books on it for years .. yet Vincent presents it in a truly transforming way that will bring the reader to an entirely new depth of understanding and appreciation.I couldn't more highly recommend this book, and I believe that if you are seeking to learn more regarding the contemplative life and Christ as a present living reality, you will not be disappointed.
