#24,602 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I really enjoyed the e-book the Ark. I got hooked after reading a few pages to see who would survive. I have my doubts that only the United States would create a sleeper program so that at least some of his people might survive the apocalypse. Basically the story describes the lengths to which the United States was willing to go to keep the program secret, and how the sleeper technology plus facility were developed. One of the most interesting parts of the story is that American leaders and the military were willing to work together to ensure that only the best qualified selected individuals became sleepers. The moneyed elite nor members of the political elite were allowed to become sleepers. I would like to see a continuation of the story to see who all else survived and whether everyone was more or less able to get along. This is an easy read that will hold your interest.

I only acquired this book because I saw that it was free in the Kindle store, and the description was somewhat interesting. I opened it up yesterday, and I was quickly hooked. I stayed up til midnight to finish the book. The author takes elements which have been used before and turns them into a refreshingly original and enjoyable story. It has a little bit of conspiracy, but not the 'geesh, can't they see he's a bad guy' kind that too many post apocalyptic stories have. Also, there were a lot of likeable characters. There were some issues with the book. First and foremost, fuel and frozen food that kept for 54 years. Really!?! The other issues were punctuation mistakes that broke up the flow of the story.I still give it 5 stars because I liked the story so much.

This book deals with the coming of a comet, which although will not crash into the Earth will dump a huge amount of radiation in the atmosphere rendering the Earth almost uninhabitable for an estimated 20 years. The US government decides not to tell the world of its fate as they believe it would cause unnecessary panic and riots. So they devise a twofold plan. Put thousands of people to sleep for 20 years using a newly developed technology, and put hundreds of thousands of people in shelters with a twenty year supply of food. The main problem with the book was that it did not have a main character. It was also rather mundane and the writing was just OK. The best part of the book took place after the sleepers were awakened, but unfortunately this was only the last 10 percent of the book.

I usually love reading books, but this book was so boring, I could barely make myself read more than a few pages at a time. Literally, the first 70% of the book could have been condense into 2-3 chapters. The last 30% offered no drama, suspense, or action.Quick summary (warning: spoilers):Basically the first 70% of the book is a very drawn out description of how the scientists came to design the pods to put people into long-term sleep. Then they find out there's a comet coming close to earth which will smother the earth in radiation for 20 years. The government hides this info from the general public and begins work on underground bunkers. The last 30% of the book offers several possibilities for interesting plot development, but never actually fleshed them out. Then everything ends all hunky dory in the final 2% of the book.I can't remember if I bought this book or got it as one of the free kindle offerings, but either way I paid dearly for it with my time.

Dialogue was stilted. People don't talk like that. It only serves to take one out of the suspended disbelief that is especially important in science fiction. I think this writer will get much better. The talent is there.

I really liked the premise but became bored as the story's pacing slows to a crawl in the minutia of getting the technology in place to accommodate the "sleepers". Also, this feels like the first in a series as it is weighed far to heavily on set up and really has no ending or pay off. What I was hoping for was a group that hibernates to wait out a cataclysmic disaster and awakens to a surprising and odd world that has changed in ways they never imagined (as the book description eludes to). This is not the focus of the story.

This is an enjoyable read with some unexpected twists and turns. One thing I appreciated from this new author is the level of medical and technical details he included to make aspects of the story more believable. When you think about all of the materials people would need after a post apocalyptic event it’s a pretty extensive list. The author clearly thought this through and, again, the specifics make the story more credible. There are a few typos and missing words, but nothing too distracting.eBooks from new authors are often hit or miss. This one was definitely a hit for me as it kept my interest and I wanted to see where the story was going to go. I'd recommend it for people who enjoy this type of story. I look forward to reading more from Chris.

I thought it'd be a story of people waking up on n the future, but 95% of it was just prep work. Pretty boring.
