I should have paid more attention to the reviews. This might be a 5 star book for folks who want to be referees or better referees but it’s not really clear for someone who wants to be a more knowledgeable fan and understand the refs’ calls. A section with diagrams of call signs would have been of great use. Example: “Obstruction†with written descriptions of possible causes for the call and a diagram(s) of what the ref’s call would look like
I wish it explained the rules in a more organized way. This book mostly focuses on the opinions of an ex-umpire’s view of how the game should be played, with some repetitive topics. It would have benefited with better editing.
This book is a great resource for coaches, parents and officials. I coach 5-8th graders and learned more about the rules and game play reading this book that I have in several years of coaching and watching the sport. The way Cris explains the rules is great.
This book is really helping me understand the game that my daughter is playing. Would recommend it for any parent that has a child playing field hockey and they did not play themselves.
